We're Gen Z obsessed with future goals, slaying on social media and building empires before we can even legally rent an apartment. It's awesome. But it also means we've got this crazy attachment to outcomes. Like picture this. You nailed that audition, you get the internship, you finally hit Tink followers and then what is that it? Does the dopamine rush just vanish and leave you chasing the next validation? Or maybe, just maybe, there's a whole other level of chill we're missing out on by constantly looking ahead. That's where letting go of attachment to outcomes comes in. It's not about giving up on your dreams. It's about freeing yourself from the pressure of how those dreams unfold. Think less Instagrammable goals and more living your best life right now. So five things to ditch that outcome obsession. 1. Swap shoulds for codes. Stop telling yourself you should achieve X by Y date. It sets up this whole pressure cooker mentality. Instead, think what could happen if I just enjoy the process. What cool skills could I learn along the way? You're not a robot on a schedule. You're human with infinite potential. Dear Embrace the imperfect. Truth is, even the most successful people have failed miserably at times. We're all learning, stumbling and figuring things out as we go. So stop expecting perfection from yourself and others. Let those imperfections be your guidepass, a reminder that you're human and it's okay to mess up. Remember, Beyonce once said, if you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans. She gets it. 3. Focus on the experience. Think about it. What's more satisfying? Checking off a box on your list or genuinely enjoying the journey? When you focus on the experience, you open yourself up to unexpected joys and lessons that wouldn't have happened if you were laser focused on the end result. It's like watching a good movie. The best parts are often the ones you didn't see coming. Or practice gratitude. Seriously, this one is life changing. Instead of dwelling on what you don't have, take a moment each day to appreciate the good stuff. That delicious cup of coffee, your comfy bed, the awesome friends you have. It all adds up. When you're grateful for what you have, you naturally let go of the need to chase after what you think you should have. 5. Remember, it's not a race. We live in this constant comparison culture where everyone's trying to out hustle each other. But guess what? Your journey is unique and it doesn't have to look like anyone else's. Take your time, savor the process and celebrate your own wins. You're doing amazing, sweetie. Okay, let me give you a real life example. Imagine you're trying out for that dream band. You put in hours practicing, perfecting every note, visualizing yourself shredding on stage, but then boom. You don't get the spot. Your whole world feels like it just shattered. Right here is where letting go of outcomes comes in. Instead of getting crushed by the what ifs, acknowledge your disappointment. It's valid. But then shift your focus to the incredible skills you learned and the connections you made along the way. Maybe this is a sign to start your own band, or maybe it's just about the pure joy of playing music, which is already a win in itself. The bottom line is don't let outcomes define your happiness.
