[00:00:00] Speaker A: Alright, fam, let's talk deep breaths.
We're diving into the one relationship that, let's be real, often gets more flak than your last Tinder date. Your relationship with yourself.
I'm Riley Hart, your host. The resident self help guru who's here to drop some truth bombs. But don't worry, I'm serving them with a side of humor because life's too short to be serious all the time.
Ever felt like you're constantly baffling your inner critic?
Like that little voice in your head is always throwing shade?
We've all been there, trust me. It's like having a nosy roommate who never shuts up and judges your every move.
But here's the thing, Gen Z, you deserve better than that.
You deserve a relationship with yourself that's built on love, respect and a healthy dose of self awareness.
So how do we actually build that?
It's not about becoming some and stop perfect version of ourselves, okay?
It's about authenticity. About embracing those quirks and imperfections that make us. Well, us.
First things first, you gotta ditch the unrealistic expectations.
Social media is a highlight reel, a carefully curated illusion.
It's not real life and it's not a benchmark for your worth. Comparison is the thief of joy, as they say.
Stop comparing your behind the scenes to everyone else's highlight reel.
Focus on your own journey, your own goals, and celebrate your wins, big or small.
Second, practice self compassion.
Seriously. Treat yourself like your best friend. Would you talk to your bestie the way you sometimes talk to yourself?
Probably not, right?
So start by being kind, understanding and forgiving. Everyone messes up, everyone makes mistakes. It's part of the human experience.
Instead of beating yourself up, learn from it and move on.
Third, prioritize your mental health.
This isn't just about therapy sessions and mindfulness apps, although those can be helpful.
It's about taking time for yourself, doing things that nourish your soul and setting boundaries. Take breaks from the screen.
Go for a walk in nature.
Read a book.
Spend time with people who lift you up.
Remember, your mental well being is just as important as your physical health.
Fourth, embrace your individuality.
Don't try to fit into a mold or be someone you're not. Your uniqueness is your superpower.
Celebrate your passions, your quirks, and everything that makes you you. And finally, never stop learning and growing.
Life is a journey, not a destination.
Be open to new experiences, new perspectives and new ways of thinking.
Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Okay, real talk picture.
You're scrolling through social media, feeling the pressure to keep up with everyone else's seemingly perfect lives.
Suddenly, your inner critic starts throwing shade, reminding you of all your perceived flaws.
You start comparing yourself, feeling inadequate and questioning your own worth. Sound familiar? This is a common experience for Gen Z.
We're constantly bombarded with images and messages that tell us we need to be perfect, successful, and constantly on.
But here's the thing that's not sustainable. It's exhausting and it's not real.
Instead of letting those negative thoughts take over, try this.
Acknowledge them, but don't let them define you. Remind yourself of your strengths, your accomplishments, and the things you're grateful for.
Take a break from social media, go for a walk, listen to your favorite music, or do something that makes you feel good.
Remember, you're not alone in this. We all struggle with self doubt and insecurity from time to time, but by practicing self compassion, setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health, you can cultivate a more positive relationship with yourself.
This isn't about becoming some Instagram worthy version of yourself.
It's about embracing your authenticity, celebrating your uniqueness, and showing up for yourself every single day.
