[00:00:00] Speaker A: Yo, what's up Gen Z?
Riley Hart here, your self care guru and resident hype woman coming at you live from, well, my bedroom probably. Because let's be real, that's where most of us hang out these days.
Ever feel like you spend half your life scrolling through Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, the whole digital rodeo?
You know that feeling when your phone feels glued to your hand and you just can't seem to put it down? Yeah, me too.
That's why today we're diving deep into the art of balancing social media time with self care. Because honey, I swear it's a tightrope walk with a swarm of bees on our heads.
Ok, so here's the deal. Social media can be a blessing and a curse, right?
It connects us, inspires us, lets us unleash our inner creativity. Those TikTok dances are fire. No cap, but too much time in the digital world can seriously mess with our mental health.
We start comparing ourselves to others, feeling pressured to portray this perfect life that doesn't even exist, and before you know it, you're scrolling endlessly, missing out on real life experiences and feeling like a zombie.
So how do we find that sweet spot? How do we curate our digital lives without sacrificing our mental well being? Let me break it down for you.
First off, set boundaries. Think of social media like junk food. Delicious in moderation, but harmful if you binge all day.
Decide on a daily limit and stick to it.
Use those timer apps your parents are obsessed with or just put your phone in another room when it's time for real life.
Second, be intentional.
Don't just mindlessly scroll through feeds. Ask yourself, what am I hoping to gain from this?
Are you looking for information, inspiration or just a distraction? Once you know your goal, choose accounts that align with that intention.
Follow creators who uplift you, educate you and inspire you to be your best self. Third, curate your feed.
This is where things get real and follow anyone or anything that brings negativity into your life.
It's not about being a social media hermit. It's about creating a space that nourishes your soul, not drains it.
Think of it like decluttering your closet. Out with the old and with the good vibes. Fourth, take digital detox breaks.
Seriously, step away from the screens. Go for a walk, read a book, have a face to face conversation, gasp.
Or just do nothing and enjoy the silence.
Trust me, your brain will thank you.
Think of it like hitting the reset button on your mental health. Refreshing, rejuvenating and totally necessary.
Finally, remember that real life is happening outside the screen. Don't let social media become an escape from reality.
Put down your phone, engage with the world around you, build genuine connections and experience things firsthand.
Let me give you a real world example.
You're at a party trying to make new friends, but you're glued to your phone, scrolling through Instagram instead of actually talking to people.
Sound familiar? That's missing out on the opportunity to connect, laugh and create real memories.
Put the phone away, be present in the moment and who knows, maybe you'll even make some new besties.
Bottom line, Social media is a tool, not your life.
Use it wisely, set boundaries and remember that self care is about nurturing your mind, body and soul both online and offline.
Don't let the digital world consume you. Take control, be intentional and live your best life. Irl. So go forth. Gen Z.
Turn off those notifications, step away from the screen and get out there and live.
And don't forget to tag me in your self care adventures on TikTok. I want to see how you're rocking this.
